The Masai Mara is a good destination for safaris year-round, but the best time to visit depends on your schedule, budget, and what you want to see. The shoulder seasons of November and May–June offer mild temperatures and good game viewing. The rainy season, from April to June, is not ideal for travel, and some lodges and camps are closed during this time.

As of January 1, 2024, the entry fee for adults is $100 per day, and $50 per day for children ages 9 to 17. Visitors staying at a safari camp or lodge within the reserve pay $70 per person per day. .

The reserve is home to many animals, including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo) and the “Big Nine” (giraffe, zebra, cheetah, and hippo). 

You should keep your distance from the animals and not disturb them. You can’t have more than five vehicles near a wildlife sighting, and you should take turns viewing the animals. 

You should consider taking anti-malarial medication, and you may need a yellow fever vaccination and certificate if you’re traveling through a region where it’s endemic

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
